Pizza Pizza Pizza
Pizza has been around for many, many years and it can actually be traced back to the Ancient Greece as they covered their bread with oils, herbs and cheeses. The home of the pizza is of course in Italy as they modernised the way we saw the pizza with the Neapolitan pie with tomato. The Italians then brought in the cheese idea back in 1889. Other than the more traditional Neapolitan, how many other pizzas are out there?
Everyone has heard of the New York Pizza
The New York style pizza is Americas closest pizza to the original Italian kindThis pizza actually first came into existance in the early 1900’s and it would seem it is the American’s closest to the originalThis pizza can be seen as a bit different due to its wide, thin and foldable slices. The toppings are kept very in touch with the italians here with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Any extra toppings get mixed in with the cheese and do not go on top. This pizza varies from other American pizzas as the crust is actually hand tossed.
Sicilian Pizza
There are a lot of Sicilians in New York which is why it is often seen as the home for the pizza even though it was in Sicily that it was created in. This is a square pie that has dough over an inch thick. This is always laid out on top of tin foil.
The Simple Hawaiian Pizza
Although you would first think that this pizza was created in Hawai it really wasnt and was created in Germany and will usually be seen with a cheese and tomato base with hame, pineapple and onion. This pizza is actually the most popular pizza in Australia.
Another Entry From Italians- Pizza al Taglio
This is more of a snack than a meal and the name comes from the italian for “pizza by the slice”. This is great for the people who fancy a pizza but only want a snack rather than a full meal.
